Victoria Educational Organisation Holds Series of Special Activities to Mark Its 55th Anniversary
First virtual Parent-Child Sports Day draws overwhelming attendance of over 7,000 students, parents and teaching staff
Dedicated to providing quality early childhood education in Hong Kong since 1965, Victoria Educational Organisation (VEO) is holding a series of online/offline educational, parenting and charitable activities to mark its 55th anniversary this academic year. To kickstart the flurry of events, and as a testament to its technological prowess and unique parent-school partnership, VEO launched its first virtual Parent-Child Sports Day to an impressive turnout of over 7,000 online guests.
VEO has been synonymous with excellence in early childhood education in Hong Kong since 1965. “For over half a century, VEO has remained steadfast in its commitment to educating and inspiring the next generation to seek every opportunity to contribute to the world,” said Mrs. Jennifer Yu Cheng, Supervisor of VEO and Deputy Vice Chairwoman of CTF Education Group. “Under CTFEG direction, VEO has been investing in cutting-edge teaching and learning paradigms. In recent years, VEO engaged in a research initiative with Project Zero at Harvard Graduate School of Education to promote maker-centered learning and edutech development based on world-class global research.”

To mark its 55th anniversary as a leading early childhood education organisation, VEO launched a series of on and off-line educational, parenting and charitable activities, including: supporting UNICEF’s “Cherish Water” charity campaign to provide under-resourced communities with access to clean, potable water and holding Hong Kong’s first Little Makers Education Exhibition, focused on STEAM exposure, slated to take place in March 2021. Parents are essential members of VEO community and VEO is also planning to host a series of parenting seminars/webinars to support VEO parents during this challenging COVID-19 period.
Whereas sporting venues have been closing in Hong Kong due to the looming COVID-19 situation, VEO decided to go ahead and hold its most popular calendar event — Parent-Child Sports Day — in a new online live streamed interactive format. This decision reflects VEO’s commitment to holding schoolwide events that safeguard the health of students, families and staff while continuing to be an early education organisation with a global vision that is deeply invested in advancing edutech.
“We did not consider cancelling Sports Day for a second,” said Ms. Rebecca Ip, Executive Director of VEO. “Instead, we dug in our heels, called on all of our dedicated staff, including our amazing technical team, to go the extra mile and ultimately put together an amazing live streamed interactive online experience for parents and children alike!”
By reinventing traditional physical education activities for an innovative live streamed interactive online/on-site format, the special event drew a record 7,000 online participants and overwhelmingly positive feedback from parents, staff and other members of the VEO community. The online sports day featured fun activities for students of different ages: parent-child yoga, dancing exercises, games and more. Throughout the event, VEO students boisterously engaged with parents, teachers, principals and peers.
Following the event, VEO unveiled further plans for additional 55th Anniversary events and students received wooden piggy banks to allow them to make their own personal contributions to support UNICEF’s “Cherish Water” campaign.
